What’s Next for Carlos in 2025? All Signs Point to Williams
Speculation over Carlos Sainz’ seat for the 2025 Formula 1 season continues to be the top headline each race weekend. With Sergio Perez signing a 2-year deal with Red Bull Racing and Toto Wolff confirming Mercedes is focused on the development of Kimi Antonelli, the options for Sainz are narrowing quickly. Following the Canadian Grand Prix, Williams Racing seem to be the favourite to sign the 3-time grand prix winner over Audi, who have also shown interest in signing the Spaniard.
During the Canadian Grand Prix race weekend, James Vowles, Team Principal of Williams Racing, was adamant that Carlos Sainz is the number one target of the British racing team, and that the team is looking for “two world-class drivers” to race for them next season. Sainz would partner with current Williams’ driver Alex Albon, who recently signed a multi-year extension with the team.
Williams have struggled to be competitive on the Formula 1 grid for some time; however, Vowles feels confident in the team’s future, stating that “Williams isn’t the same Williams it was three years ago. And by the definition of the fact that we are even talking to Carlos shows you that we’ve changed our approach.” Albon spent the majority of the Canadian Grand Prix running in the points positions; however, his race came to an abrupt and early end when Sainz lost control and collided with Albon’s car. This unfortunate racing incident between two possible future teammates will undoubtedly not impact Williams’ continued interest in Sainz, as the race-ending contact between the two was completely unavoidable.
When asked about Vowles’ comments, Sainz stated that he has yet to make a final decision on his future in Formula 1, going on to say that “I’m going to need some time to sit down with my management, with myself, have a conversation with myself, and then decide where I want to go.” In the meantime, fans of Sainz will have to continue to patiently wait and see what is in store for the Spaniard for 2025.
